We had fun at Roller City! (March 2018)

“Just wanted to thank you for such a great event today. My daughter really enjoyed it and we all learnt a great deal from other parents and children at the event. Many thanks.” Melanie B

DASH members – Apply for a bursary for a Diabetes UK fun filled weekend for children, teenagers and families!
With the support of Harpenden Lions Club, we’re offering children, teenagers and families the chance to apply for a bursary towards the cost of an action packed weekend away. Diabetes UK run a series of events throughout the year, all aimed at helping children and teenagers take steps to become more independent and learn more about living with Type 1 Diabetes.
They organise events for the following age groups;

  • Type 1 Quest—for 8-10 year olds
  • Type 1 Adventure—for 11-15 year olds
  • Type 1 Experience—for 16-18 year olds
  • Family weekends

One of our young volunteers, Katie, has been on a number of Diabetes UK weekends and says, “Going away a year after I was diagnosed let me meet and connect with other children in the same position as me, previously I had felt very isolated and alone. Seeing the diabetic leaders manage their diabetes independently also helped me to see how it is possible to lead a near to normal life with diabetes. It was a really valuable experience for me and my family and I would recommend it to all families living with diabetes, especially with newly diagnosed children.”

For all events you can apply for 50%, up to a cost of £200. To register your interest and apply please get in touch and outline why you think attending this would benefit your son, daughter or family. DASH can fund up to three holidays per year.

DASH is a volunteer group

We are a self-help group, run by local people for local families . Our aim is to provide these families opportunities to meet and share experiences with each other, and also to raise funds for a much desired cure. Our children cover a wide age range and the regimes our families use range from two injections per day through to pump therapy with combined real-time sensors. We are actively encouraging new members, so please come and join us! We are affiliated with Diabetes UK.

Could you and your family benefit from being part of a mutual support group? Would you like to come and join us? After all, the real experts in care are us, and so often other parents can have answers or ideas to problems we face. Although the internet gives access to a much wider group of parents, it can’t match the support of a local group meeting. If you would like more information, please Contact Us
